I think you got it. You use the special create box template that comes with the backup system, and you can make multiple auto loading layouts for new pages by adding more create boxes with corresponding templates.
I see your point about the extension being good for page creation through URLs to non existent pages, although I don't think that's too common among inexperienced users, and I think experienced users would go through the proper channels to create pages. You could create a page like Project:Article creation and include all the create boxes on it and post links to that page on the main page and on the welcome template for new users. The only time I ever had a problem with people not using the proper create boxes to appropriately categorize their work was when it turned out that they were just a troll who had been plagiarizing stories and user bios from fanfiction.net; the stories have been deleted. I think the extension would have its place though. As long as it doesn't require database changes, I think it's doable.

We have a backup system at the Hub Wiki that does the same thing; all you do is export and import the pages to add the backup system. I'd say the Wikkii Backup System is better because the new page templates automatically appear and don't require users to select them.

The staff also doesn't install MediaWiki either, but it's very simple; here's the directions:
1) Go to the database section of the cpanel. 2) Create a database. 3) Create a database user. 4) Give it full privileges. 5) Add the user to the database.
Installing MediaWiki:
1) Download the software from mediawiki.org. 2) Upload the file. 3) Extract/uncompress the files. 4) Rename the folder that the MediaWiki files are in awawiki, or whatever else your want, if you want. 5) Go to awa.wikkii.net and click on the link to the folder that MediaWiki is in. 6) Follow the directions that are given.
You can also join community.wikkii.net to help increase knowledge of your wiki and help membership and the community. I'm looking to get all of the Wikkii wikis working together.

General Category / General Discussion / Creating a moderator user group for the farmer wikis (good of advh users too)
|

I think it could be useful to create a moderator group on the farmer wikis. The abilities that it could have would be the ability to delete and move pages, rollback, and the oversight abilities to hide revisions and logs, but not to view them (moderators are like this at Sturmkrieg). This would be useful for wiki admins who want to give users the ability to remove content, but restrict the number of people who can have access to content hidden for privacy or legal reasons. It would also be good to have a user group that has some admin abilities to regulate content, but without the ability to block users since abuse of adminship is not uncommon, particularly on smaller, freely hosted wikis.
If anyone else would like to have this user group, please indicate that you would.

This is the right place, however, if the extension requires database changes, it is very unlikely it will be installed.
You can always apply for advanced hosting though.

Sometimes the owner of Wikkii is busy for several days.
You are not being ignored, and I am sure Wikkii will take action as soon as he is back.
I've had trouble sometimes too, but requests always go through. If you're concerned, you could submit a second form. Also, posting here always helps.
Is it a problem with something on a wiki here? Wikkii has been very good in the past about removing wikis that have objectionable content. Is it something that you could mention here?

You don't have to have a user base to have an advanced hosted wiki. I don't think you actually need one to apply anymore, although it helps for getting approved. If you've been with Wikkii for a while and you're reliable about getting stuff done, all you need to do is ask. I also don't think you need to have a user base or edit regularly to keep the wiki, but you need to make sure that it doesn't get spammed.
