Do wikis using the Advanced Hosting option have the necessary permissions to run maintenance scripts? That is there are a number of useful php scripts located in the maintenance folder of a default Mediawiki installation. In the past hosts have made it difficult or impossible to run these scripts, some of which are critical, such as easily updating the wiki software when a new revision comes out (using update.php which updates the database schema if any changes have been made).

Advanced hosting does not include SSH so those scripts are not usable. There is an extension named maintenance which lets you execute some of those scripts via a special page in your wiki.

Thanks for the tip, that's a very nice extension, especially with the interface to make it as simple as possible. You were right though that there are only a handful of scripts available.

I did some more looking around and found this extension:

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MaintenanceShell

It allows you to specify arbitrary parameters and has worked so far for every script I've needed to use and turned a multi-day job of moving a 20k page wiki by hand into a far easier and shorter task.
