Is it possible to have extensions added to a farmer wiki that I have if I request one?

You can request extensions, but whether they are added depends on the extension.

Ones that require database changes cannot be added to the farmer wikis, but we will consider any others.

Would you consider installing the following extensions for rapina.wikki.com?
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:DPLforum (this is the most important)
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ImageMap
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CategoryTree
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:RandomInCategory
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CharInsert
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CreateBox

That would be most helpful.

I have added the most important one for you, DPLforum.

And we already had CreateBox installed as it was requested by a few other people.

We may add the other extensions in future if more people are requesting them.

Hope this helps smile

Thanks for installing the extensions.  I am having a problem, though -- hope you can help.  DPLforum relies on creating articles in the Forum: namespace, but for some reason, createbox always fails when the prefix parameter is specified: instead of going to the edit window, it goes to the home page.  See, for instance, http://rapina.wikkii.com/wiki/Forum:Help_desk.

I tried createbox on another farmer wiki, and if prefix is specified, it fails the same way -- so it doesn't seem limited to one wiki.

Are you able to use DPLforum without Createbox?

It sounds like it's a problem with Createbox, and not DPLforum, is that correct? smile

That's correct, it seems limited to Createbox.

DPLforum seems to work okay, but it's going to be hard to ask people to create, by hand, specially-named pages, when they want to add a topic.  The idea is that every new topic X is a page "Forum:X"
Here is an example: http://starter.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Help_desk

One more request: could you create a namespace, "Forum"?  Without it, the forum articles are being searched, etc. just like the main namespaces.

Thanks.

I had the same problem when I was using the Createbox extention.  I noticed that it seems to work fine when Wikia uses it, so I'm guessing that there's multiple versions of it or something.

I want to use a createbox that will add a prefix to the article name, and will templates/text into the new page.  Wikia is able to do this.  Would you be able to add what ever version of the Createbox they use, to http://sturmkreig.wikkii.com

Technically, Extension:InputBox can do all that, just change "type=create".

Thanks for the suggestion!  But while it can create a new page, it also fails as soon as prefix is specified (and it's not even documented for InputBox type=create).

Just to be clear, it fails on my farmer wiki; it works just fine on your "advanced hosting" gintama.wikkii.net.

I can specify a template, but not a prefix.  It will still be helpful though.  Thanks.  If anyone can find a way to insert a prefix, please let me know.

You are right.
When I added the prefix, it fails on gintama.wikkii.com too.
FYI, Inputbox allows namespace, for those who intend to use prefix to prepend a namespace.

However, take a look at this page, perhaps this is what you are looking for:

I'm the administrator of a farmer wiki which is going to have a lot of logs posted, and is going to need the logs and character pages to be listed in various ways. The most effective way of doing this is through one of the DynamicPageList extensions.

The third-party version of DPL is significantly improved over the Wikimedia one, but there is apparently some security hole that lets users add arbitrary Javascript to pages. This would not be a problem for us, as I keep a close eye on what goes on on the wiki and it is, like all farmer wikis if I recall correctly, set up so that only registered users can edit pages. If anybody were to exploit the hole, they would be promptly banned. However, I can see why you might be reticent to allow us to have a known security hole installed. The Wikimedia version of DPL would work almost as well for our purposes, so I'd be perfectly willing to settle for that until the third-party version of DPL gets their act together.

We will look into it and see if there is more demand.

Actually, after reviewing the functionality of the Wikimedia version, I've discovered that it's missing the ability to list pages that link to a particular page, which is the most essential part of what we plan to do with it. So it's third-party or nothing.

Interwiki links are most critical to me.  I can live without optional rows on the DozerfleetWiki Mirror, but the biggest reason I have not switched operations completely over to Wikkii from Wiki-Site has been the fact that I can't type [[Wikipedia:Star Wars|Star Wars]] or similar and have it link to Wikipedia.

Gored By Them Things is nearly impossible to work with when everything on it is red because it'll only let me link to Wikipedia the long way.

PS-The reason I was considering a switch over is because Wikkii has a lot less downtime than Wiki-Site.
