Extension add, switch and removal
«
on:

Would you please add extension:DeleteBatch, replace extension:YouTube by extension:Widgets and remove extension:Createbox? Reasons for the replacement and removal are:
We have already the extension:Inputbox so I can't think for a reason to have the createbox extension. I, myself prefer the inputbox.
The widget extension provides possibilities to watch not only YouTube but also Google and Yahoo videos, create a Facebook "like box", use iFrame to post websites
WITHOUT ANY SECURITY RISKS
and much, oh so much more!
URL:s regarding the extensions:
http://www.mediawikiwidgets.org/Widgets catalog
- The MediaWiki widgets catalog AKA list of all MediaWiki widgets at Mediawikiwidgets.org
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Widgets
- Widget extension page at MediaWiki.org
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:DeleteBatch
- DeleteBatch extension page at MediaWiki.org
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Inputbox
- InputBox extension page at Mediawiki.org
Other things
All the rights given from the extensions can be given to sysops (deletebatch, editwidgets).
Please provide a suitable answer to this post if and why an extension cannot be installed. Please don't be a jerk and/or leave me and possibly other users in the dark.
All of the extensions are stable (except for DeleteBatch being beta, but I have had a wiki in Referata.com also and I have tested DeleteBatch there. Trust me. It worked just fine).
Thank you for your cooperation! It's great to have a wiki on Wikkii.com!

I will look into these in more detail after we have moved to a new server. This will likely occur in the next few days, so I want to get that sorted before adding any new extensions.

We are using createbox for new forum thread creation. If Inputbox is functional superset, we may be able to migrate, but I'd like to examine it first.

Alright. My primary goal was the YouTube extension to be replaced with the Widget extension, but I still thought about this too.

Deletebatch extension's request is switched to Extension:User merge and delete. User merging can be used for removing abusive accounts and merging sock puppets by wish.

I'm not sure about these extensions. I'll need to see if there is more demand or not.
Thanks for the suggestions though.

Just chiming in to say that Widgets is the only thing that kept me at Referata, until it was clear that they wouldn't pick up anything to help with the sidebar issues. Widgets lets me have the ability to embed maps and information, and it has a really good customer support base.

Just wondering, there's been quite a bit of radio silence on this, AND user demand. Any word so far? It'd be nice to know either way. As it is I've been considering advanced hosting, but a) the fewer extensions I have to possibly mess up the better b) I already will have to install MapLib and timeline extensions and fuss with them c) I tend to gauge how likely support is going to help me in the long run by how they handle other users in the forum. Seeing as this hasn't been touched since last year, it's a concern.

Two of the people requesting in this topic are actually the same person (same IP address) so there wasn't much demand apart from the OP (and yourself).
If you think you are comfortable with installing Mediawiki, then perhaps Advanced Hosting may be suitable for you.

I strongly recommend against anything that deletes accounts. On Farmer wikis, it could screw up every single wiki.
If someone is making sock puppet accounts for vandalism/trolling, just block them and rename the account. If you really need to, you can suppress the records in the username change log.

Sadly I'm not entirely, especially as the main skin I'm trying to develop for is Monaco, which does some things differently than vector/monobook.

In addition a significant problem is that I routinely transpose numbers. Also past a specific point coding starts becoming something that, despite me knowing what it does and that I've just written it, refuses to put itself into an order which I can grok it... This would be why I failed programming classes, yes. This is also why when I installed Mediawiki on my own hosting back in the day, it ended up what one might term "A hot mess".
Sadly this was why I ended up leaving Referata. While the tools were very powerful indeed, the lack of documentation in some areas and how that affected accessibility made it a significant hurtle for my current project.

You could try organizing the end of your local settings file, by using commented-out text to create sections.
If that still wouldn't work, you could request that the Community Wiki setup an ADVH wiki for you. I might be a few days slow in doing that at the current moment though. It's one of the services we were thinking offering.

I tend to do that, or leave the relevant fields blank if I'm testing what does what a piece at a time, but sometimes even then I go "...wait why did I do that, why didn't I-? [attempt to fix, attempt to fix, figure out two hours later WHY I did that]"
But that would be perfect. I had trouble with my old imported code and the extensions messing up terribly, if one was set up for me I know that my current farmer wiki will be compatible, and I can just focus on the content and managing the extensions.

It might help to leave a note next to the setting. I know that mediawiki.org often actually does that with examples of settings that they show in articles.
Alright, I can setup a wiki for you. I'll make a form where you can give me the relevant information about what you want it to be called and what extensions it should have.

For some reason I tend to strip it out like an idiot when I'm done coding because it's too long, and then... I forget to work off of my notes in the original backup file. It's a bad habit I need to work on.
That'd be great, do I message you? Or are you going to leave me a message on my wiki, or what other method would you prefer?
