This has been something I've wondered about for a long time.  I've been thinking about created wikis on various topics that have broad appeal, such as video games, history, ect. and importing pages from Wikipedia or Wikia to act as a starting point.

Is there any way, possibly with a bot that adds templates to articles, to mass attribute imported pages, or attribute them faster than doing it manually?

Does anyone have a bot or something that could do this?

I don't have a bot to do this, but I'm sure there is a Wikipedia bot that can transfer pages.

Besides, you can only create bots if your using Advanced Hosting.

Would you be able to look into that at all?  I'll look too, when I get a chance.

I'll also look into getting advanced hosting for creating wikis on popular topics like major video games, which I should hopefully be able to get, since we'll have a source for the content.

Two things to look into.

Does anyone know how to set up the bot?

The regex extension could be good, as long as there aren't too many categories, and Wikkii lets us start with advanced hosting.

I don't. I've never used it for anything.

If I were you, I'd go with the extension. You kinda need a little knowledge of python to fully take advantage of the bot; whereas the extension is easy to use, and can mass edit pages you want to categorize.

Example: There are 15 pages you forgot to add a category to, say the category is Fruitcake. You would enter the 15 titles into the box specified in the extension page, and then add [[Category:Fruitcake]] to the 'replace with' field, and there's a code to type in the 'look for' field so that the category tag can be inserted at the beginning of the page. Or even the end of it.

If Wikkii will let me start out with an advanced hosted account, I'll certainly use that.  I think that will be alright, especially if there's one or multiple extensions that I need for it.
