I have a farmer wiki, and on December 20th, a user registered an account on it because I had linked it in a chatroom the user was in at the time. Later on that same day, another user registered and vandalized the wiki. For various reasons, I suspect the vandal account to be a sockpuppet of the legitimate account. However, I have no way of confirming this since farmer wikis do not come with the CheckUser extension. Is there any alternative way I can check into this and see if the two accounts use the same IP address or not?


I am suspicious because:
- The vandal's username was "IAmNotMeepsheep". There was a lot of drama recently between Meepsheep and the other user, and Meepsheep claims this user impersonated her on Wikia and uploaded Pain Series.
- I find it very unlikely Meepsheep would be able to find a puny wiki like mine that doesn't even come up in a Google search.
- I have no way of knowing if it is Meepsheep or the other user who is telling the truth, since neither of them have proof of their claims.

Can we get the address of your  wiki to help determine this?  Bill9929 was recently here asking about an extension to get IP addresses with. I don't know if it's him, but I find it unlikely that it's actually Meepsheep.

Based on this, I'm pretty sure they're both Bill9929.  Given that, and the fact that Bill already impersonated her.

Did you check the IPs, or can you even do that?

No, you would need Check User for that, and even then, it's still possible for users to use proxies.

So, I guess it's safe to say that IAmNotMeepsheep was in fact Bill9929's sockpuppet? Anything that would say otherwise? Or can I go just go right on and unleash the banhammer now?

Actually because I'm getting no reply (presumably because everyone is asleep) I've just gone ahead and blocked him indefinitely. He hasn't been active on the wiki in days, so he probably won't be causing any more problems, but I think he's gotten away with what he (probably) did long enough now.

EDIT: I forgot to mention; a user named "Linkstar" joined the wiki on January 22. "Linkstar" is the name of a Creepypasta Wikia admin, which is the Wikia Bill is from. I want to check that account too.

If Wikkii has the tools to do that, I'm sure they can.  I know the cpanel for users has an easy way of seeing the IP of users who edit or visit, I think.  The best thing to do if you want to fight sock puppets is to get an advanced hosted wiki and install Check User.

I actually have another Wikkii that is on Advanced Hosting, and I'm considering moving this farmer wiki to Advanced Hosting for this very reason.

It's definitely  a good idea to move to advanced hosting.  For one thing, you aren't out of luck if you ever lose bureaucrat access.  It's just a lot better.  Also, once you've got at least one ADVH wiki, it's easier to get another once it's clear that you'll actually set them up.

I am currently the admin at http://sm64.wikkii.com/, and would like to move it to Advanced Hosting.

I've submitted an application previously to start a new wiki called "Foamypedia", which was accepted, and my main reason was because of the customization, such as being able to install my own extensions, etc. The reasons for this application are basically the same.

I'm curious if there's a way to transport existing user accounts over to the new domain, or if everyone will have to re-register themselves.

Do you mean from a farmer wiki to an ADVH wiki?  Technically, there's a way it could be done, but I'm not sure it's actually possible.  It's fairly likely that you would have to just let everyone register again.  It a way, it can be good since it gives you an accurate idea of how many active users you have.

It's possible that you might be able to get Wikkii to give you the database table from your old wiki and import it into the new database, although I'm not sure how that would work at all and it would be extremely complex (especially for a new ADVH user).  Unless you really know what you're doing, I think that would be very risky.

It think it would be better to just create new accounts.
