Hello!

My community and I have just recently moved from Wikia to Wikkii, and discovered a "problem".

All of us find the rich text editor of Wikia very convenient, and are wondering if it is possible to install editor extensions such as WYSIWYG, WikiEditor or the FCKeditor?

Cheers!

Hello, and welcome to Wikkii! hi I'm very happy to hear that you've moved from Wikia to Wikkii, because this site doesn't make constant changes that disrupt your wiki, unlike Wikia, and you have more control over your wiki at Wikkii. I've also recently moved from Wikia to Wikkii, so I understand what things are like for you.

At this moment, Wikkii doesn't support rich text editing for farmer wikis, I'm afraid. You can apply for advanced hosting if that is your wish, which requires more technical knowledge, but gives you even more control over your wiki in return.

Literally, the only two restrictions under advanced hosting are that you must include an ad banner for logged-out users, and a "Hosted by Wikkii" button towards the end of each page. My wiki currently doesn't use advanced hosting, but you might be interested in it if the farmer system isn't enough for you.

Thanks, and good luck with your wiki! smile

Rich text editors are crutches designed to allow wikia users (most of which are 12 year old gamers) to quickly add pages and be done with it, thus increasing chances of search engines finding them and making wikia more money.

Kind of like how these days everyone uses programs to make web pages and have NO clue how to understand or write in HTML despite it being an integral part of what you are doing.

(In case you didn't get at what im talking about - i really hate wikia)

You can use advanced hosting to add a WYSIWYG editor, but I discourage it because it is a crutch and can actually make editing harder.  The wiki code is simple enough that users who take a few minutes to understand it will be able to become very proficient.

It could be good for getting people to start out editing, since they'll likely be intimidated if they think they have to learn a programming language to contribute, but you should make it very clear how users can turn it off. Most editors find it to be very obstructive.
