How much flexibility do we get with Wikkii anyway? Can we do things like add user groups with their own rights, as well as get Semantic MediaWiki?

If you get Advanced Hosting, yes.

So if I apply, and it gets approved, I have to get it up in two weeks, "or else?"
At the moment I know zilch about FTP and Cpanel, though I may learn soon and perhaps apply.

Currently me and Sasha areoffering Intermediate Hosting. The service gives you more freedom in terms of your setup without the cost of learning or maintaining the wiki server side. iCreate.wikkii.net is currently being set up (However just pm me a request and Ill add the wiki within 24hrs (I have a mediawiki package allready on the file system ready to extract and configure). Sk.wikkii.net is Sashas and is setup (Mostly), Just request a wiki via the google form and it will be setup for you.
There are downsides to having Intermediate Hosting, Which I will list (The ones I can think of the top of my head) here:
- No Control over wiki : You have no real control over the wiki in terms of accessing the setup directly (Much Like Farmer), However you can easily request one of the maintainers to add extensions, change the configs and fix bugs.
- Longer URLs and Common Domain: The domain name will stay the same on intermediate hosting (e.g. Icreate.wikkii.net or sk.wikkii.net), Wiki installs will be added as folders, This means you could have a wiki at sk.wikkii.net/EpicWikiInstallHere/ or .../sw/ etc. With advanced hosting you get a domain like EpicWikiInstallHere.wikkii.net or sw.wikkii.net (Your Prefix/Wiki name on the wikkii.net main domain)
- Forced Extensions: Depending on the Hoster your wiki install may be required to have certain content / extensions installed. For instance icreate.wikkii.net will always use a Custom Extension called WikkiiAd (Coded by me) to add the required ad (Only for Anon users) to all pages (In every skin). There are several extensions I wont install on any icreate wiki, These are mainly ones that brake functionality or have huge security risks .
- Down Time: You may experience down time on any of the services (Adv Hosting included), However iCreate will be down for 6 minutes every day, The reason for this is to ensure that the backup script is not interrupted and prevent errors whilst it dumps the database. This time is split between two points every day (Every 12 hrs).
- Request to Customise: There will be several things you cant customize manually, This is both a good and a bad thing, Good in that it keeps the service secure, Bad in that you have to rely on Maintainers to Customize certain things.
- Rules: You will have to obey rules laid out by the maintainers, These will be the Adv Hosting Rules with a couple of extras.
Advantages:
- No setup or fuss on your part
- Short/Friendly Url structure by default (Like Farmer wikis, Adv Hosting would have to do this manually)
- Regular Backups (At Least on iCreate)
- Support (iCreate has Forum and Skype). All Intermediate Hosting services should provide support, if not for most wiki related things support could be found here or at mediawiki.org iCreate will be open to installing several different types of wiki softwares if requested, However full Support is only given to Mediawiki or derivatives(e.g. Semantic)
To sum up.
Intermediate Hosting is a step between Adv Hosting and Basic Farmer wikis.
Farmer Wiki - Least Customization, No Technical Knowledge required.
Intermediate Hosting - Slightly less Customization level as Adv Hosting, Most Customization will need to be done through the Maintainer, No Technical Knowledge required.
Adv Hosting - Biggest Customization, Need Technical Knowlegde or alot of Help (Tends to be)
(Not including Mediawiki Knowledge)
In Adv Hosting you get 2 weeks to start the installation process of the wiki, After the basic installation is done(All that is req to keep account) you then need to find all extensions you want, Skins and Customize the LocalSettings.

To address some of the downsides:
Forced Extensions- While there are a number of extensions that I'll install by default, I'm willing to remove any possible future ones that pose a problem. It's existence would have to actually be a problem though. I won't be doing anything like Wikia and their horrible Message Wall extension.
Another very important advantage that Intermediate Hosting has over the Farmer hosting is that Bureaucrats cannot literally take over and close wikis. On the Farmer system, any Bureaucrat can remove any other, which can mean that users can go rogue and simply take the wiki for themselves, or they can even set it as closed and inaccessible to anyone else. Once they do that, they can even ask Wikkii to delete the wiki.
On SK Hosting, I won't be deleting wikis. Upon founder request, if the wiki is moving or does not have any contributors, I'll set it as closed so that only sysops have access to it. That way, it can always be reopened and the administrators can return to check information if needed.

Unfortunately, we're not doing it any more. I'm not sure the iCreate wiki ever got set up, and Sturmkrieg-Wikkii hosting suffered from two problems. The first was that I quickly realized that I wasn't going to be able to do it without fully planning out a prefabricated wiki. Since then, the Sturmkrieg Administration Committee made a decision to withdraw from Wikkii because of a severe lack of administrator presence since the transfer of ownership. We're open to rejoining if the admins become active again, but otherwise we made the decision not to risk losing invested time and energy if Wikkii is dormant or should it go completely offline, as many people feared it did recently.
